The last day in the South Island, this took me back inland from the west coast through the Buller Gorge, where I spotted a sign saying “Swing Bridge”, so decided to have a look.

Buller Gorge Swing Bridge

Boasting the longest swing bridge in New Zealand, this tourist attraction has of course the swing bridge across the river, and for more adventurous types a zipline instead. There’s also a bushwalk leading to old mining camps, opportunities to pan for gold as well as take a jet boat ride up the river.

Continuing back north, I headed toward Nelson for a lunch stop at Tahunanui Beach, then onwards to Blenheim (with a quick stop in Waihopai Valley) and back up to Picton for the ferry back to Wellington while night fell.
